Please help? Sequence Snapper Plumbing question. Are they Quiet? CL

Now my local reef shop posted on here to try a Sequence Snapper pump. That way I could increase my flow if I need to, or decrease it. It is supposed to be very quiet as well. It only draws 98 watts. That sounds good to me. My question is, how would you plumb that thing? I see you need a 2 in feed to the pump. Is there a way to reduce that? Is there something I can buy at home depot to fit onto that pump to decrease the 2in to 3/4 in? I have all my plumbing done and everything is 3/4in. =( I don't see how I could incorporate that into my system. Can you help? My 40 gallon reef needs some help. I ran into trouble with my QO 5,000 if you all have heard. Now he suggested using this. This would be for my closed loop system. The closed loop is split 3 times to direct flow in different spots of the aquarium. One is going to my Sea Swirl, another to loc line. The loc line is split with a y fitting. Thus making 3 splits. Can you help? Everything is 3/4in. I need a pump that is quiet and that will run cool. This is what he suggested to me. This will be a SPS and LPS aquarium. The adjustable flow is great just in case I want to increase flow when my acropora's grow. This system is not set up yet, but I am planning for that in the future. Please help?

You would either need to 1) enlarge the current 3/4 hole to fit a 2" bulkhead but beware, those 2" bulkhead holes are HUGE. I wouldn't do it on my 75gal and its got thicker glass 2) increase the 3/4 bulkhead to a 1.25" bulkhead AND drill another 1.25" bulkhead hole giving you 2 1.25" intakes. Then you would T them together up to 2" 3) do an over the top intake of 2"

If you reduce the intake pipe size, you will cavitate the pump and it will not work correctly.

I have a GenX external pump running my return. It has 3/4 intake and output. I bought it used and its a great pump. Doesn't get very warm, is quiet, and pushes about 850gph.

That is what I did with my Quiet One pump. I reduced the intake from 1 in to 3/4in. It came with those adadpters to do it. So, do you think that's why that pump is so loud? Because I reduced the intake size?

Very well could be. Depending on how you plumbed it, you could use 2 of those 3/4 holes and T them together and up the pipe size to 1" at the T. Then connect it to the pump and see how that sounds.

But i have a QO 1200 for my recirc pump on my DIY CA reactor, and its loud as hell. Chatters all the time and i have it plumbed with the correct sized pipe.

would i still be able to use my 3/4in sea swirl etc, if I bought the Sequence Pump? Well My other Quiet One I did the same thing to. So maybe if I try to redo that plumbing first and see if that helps, then maybe I'll try it on my larger QO. I really like the sound of the Sequence pump though. Everyone feels that if they have a 1" opening that have to use 1" pipe throughout their run. Don't drill another hole just get an adapter that goes from 1" (your opening to 2" and then run 2" pipe to the pump...if you do this then the pump will run most efficient and silent. If the flow is too much close the discharge valve on your line and it will run even quieter and consume less watts.

Interesting. Not sure how that works, only a limited amount of water can come out a 1" hole, if your pulling 1500gph thru the pump, and a 1" hole can only flow a max of 1000gph where is that other 500gph gonna come from?

Your seaswirl is over the back right? You could always just add another T if you are short on oulets.

I have a sequence pump (hammer) on my mixing vat, it draws from a 1" bulkhead in the bottom of the vat, I can hear a ton of noise, sounds like something rattling around, it comes directly from the 1" bulkhead, I thing its cavitating right at that point. I dont hear this on any of the other 3 sequence pumps i have on this tank. It does'nt bother me, it only runs when i'm mixing and doing a W/C. But it would be bad if it ran this way on a closed loop IMO. If I were you i'd go with a smaller pump, like a mak or iwaki, even if you have to do 2 of them.
