This only seems to have started happening over the last 24 hours, 48 hours at most. I noticed the Mandarin in that area earlier today eating but I hadn't realised it was after that big a population of pods. The polyps have closed up and I'm assuming the grey ones are dead or dying, what's wrong? Are these pods eating them and is the whole colony in jeopardy?

What can I do to get them off?

They react when touched and may take a while to open. Do check your parameters: see the sticky up top on Cycling's not all of it.

The rest of the colony is fine and thinking about it, that small section was fine earlier today when I fed the tank, I watched them feeding. There are pods swarming two or three of them but not the rest of the colony, they're specifically swarming the polyps which have gone grey and see through almost.

Checking water now...

Looks fine to me, but something touched it and it closed up. It'll reopen pretty quickly I am sure.

There are two or three polyps which have lost their colour or gone grey (like the one in the centre of the pic) and the pods are swarming them, everything else in the colony is fine.

pH 8,0-8,2
Nitrite 0
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 2,0 - 4,0
SG 1.023

That grey stuff your seeing might be a fungus of some sort. If you can remove the polyps with ease you might want to dip them in something like Furan-2. I believe this is used to treat Zoa-Pox and things of this nature. If you just want to remove the dying polyps then a pair of tweezers should do the trick. Maybe use a brush and give the area a light dusting too.

and Specific Gravity is a bit low. I keep mine at lowest around .026 and more toward .028 everything seems to really like that.

Yellow polyps Actually like a bit higher nutrients, They are also a odd coral as in they will try and take over your tank or just die out Xenia coral is similar like this.. It might be just that its not liking your tank. If all other corals are fine i would not try to adjust to pleases them.. But with that all said they look fine they are not all going to be open or closed together they are each there own animal.....

Good Luck
