Hope these come through clear I just got over a bad case of cyno and now I have this and cant get rid of it. Does anyone know what type of algae this is and if so how do you get rid of it my phospphate is 2ppm my nitrate is 0ppm and my ammonia is 1ppm

it looks like your general hair algae. how long has the tank been up and running? are you using RO or RO/DI water or tap water? what all is in the tank and what size is your tank? do you have a sump/refugium? skimmer?

to combat hair algae, you might introduce some mexican turbo snails. mine do a great job of keeping the rocks clean. an algae (aka lawnmower) blenny would also get working on that algae problem.

i'd also suggest a water change to try to bring your ammonia down as well.

54 gallon corner bow front 70lbs live rock a fewe snails in there with a cleaner shrimp and a large brittle star fish , I have a sump with a prefilter matt and a sponge in it with a skimmer no fish as they all dies about a month ago the tank is about 2-2 1/2 years old. So you think a scooter and some snails what about a urchin.. And yes I use r/o water

snails...

snails...

ok, so the water you use isn't the problem. you said the fish all died off a month ago? have you done any major water changes since then? a thought just popped into my head that perhaps a fish died that you were unable to remove, which is fueling the algae growth.

another thought: do you have a refugium set up in the sump? if so, you could add macro algae (chaeto to start) that will suck up the excess nutrients and out-compete the nuissance hair algae.

as for the snails, my mexican turbos are pigs. they have kept my tank hair algae free it's entire life (~6 months). the lawnmower blenny gets in the places they can't reach due to their huge size (almost the size of half or silver dollars). another thing to add might be a few hermit crabs. i have a few zebra hermits that never stop moving and eating (one has molted at least twice in the past 3 months!).

worst case scenario--since you don't have any fish in the tank, you could always take the rock out and scrub the algae off with an old toothbrush, but unless you get the phosphate down and the ammonia down, it will continue to come back.

hope this helps.

What killed all my fish was an anenome that died while I was awa and killed all the fish I know I got them all out
