Please Help!!!

Whenever I work in the tank I wear gloves. I also have to use my 4 foot claw grabber to avoid getting hit. He can probably go threw the glove but at least it will have some resistance. I hate this thing at I am ready to remove all the rock just to get him. He hides very well and I don't see him very often. I wish I could find his rock. What would be my last resort?

Tearing your reef apart. Thats basically a last resort.

And for what its worth everyone - I CALLED DIBS! So back OFF! :D Hehe. Thats only if he wants to give him up.

My best suggestion to you at this point is to save your energy for the evenings. Wait till lights out and stalk him. Most reef creatures are blind at night. Get yourself a flashlight with a RED lens so you can watch him, but he can't see you. Stalk him.

I have tried that. I wake up early after the lights have been out for awhile that I watch. No sign of him. I usually see him in the early eve around 6-7. He hides under a rock a the bottom of the tank. He waits until I feed the fish then he shows up. I have starved my fish for 4 days thinking he will take the bait from the trap but he doesn't show. If I dip all the rock in fresh water will it kill the liverock? I was told if I find his rock to do it with that. I am in the process of switching tanks and I thought maybe I can get him then.

try baiting the trap with something the fish can't or won't eat. for instance if you get a live clam from the supermarket (asian supermarkets always have them live) the mantis might get trapped and the fish won't. my mantis loves to eat live clams. leave it for a few days at least.

Nasomike:

If you've got the same kind as mine you won't find him out and about at night. My guy seals up the tunnel entrances in the evening and reopens them after dawn. He fills them with small rocks and sand until it's a perfect seal.

big mantis

big mantis

many of the mantis talked about seem to be somewhat small... what is considered a huge mantis? I have one that is about5-,6 inches long, a freind of mine knows a place in San Francisco where he's gotten parrots and others as big as 8 inches,2 inches wide.

I know from first hand that a peacock can see them. He can see the red infrared from my optical mouse when I life it up near the tank.

parrots! lol :D

mantis whacks aren't too bad, my 4 inch mantis hits about as hard as a hard finger-flick (personal experience :D )

nasomike, any updates?

I have not seen him in about 10 days. I have no clue where he went. Maybe he died. Or I can only hope. Traps are not working.
