hello guys, got this leather mushroom coral from lfs, i was wondering if it has another name, scientific or real name of coral, since there are a lot of diferent leather mushrooms out there, the problem is that it doesnt want to extend any more and its turning white, i moved it since between the mushrooms and xenia but its still the same, anyone out there know if this coral needs something extra, like more lighting (i have a dual satellite w 2 96w bulbs) probably less movement of water, or maybe its positioned wrong, since i have it on its side, any help is greatly appreciated, this is the picture, thanks

looks like a sactophytan(spelling) to me. I had one and it liked some decent flow. I would get it off its side. I started with Fluorescent lighting to 4x65 watt PC's. It did fine. Your Star Polyps or your Gonipora on the sand could be bothering it. Thats my 2 cents. Good luck

yes i moved it in between the mushrooms and the xenia for now to see how it goes, i have 2 tangs for now, when they get bigger i will trade for other fishes, thanks guys

It's called Sarcophyton, AKA Leather, Mushroom or Toadstool coral. You are going to have to keep an eye on it because it has sweeper tenticles that come out and protect it's surrounding area- mostly at night. I have seen mine extend out about twelve inches to whip another coral to the point of flesh loss. If you can, direct the water column in a way that it can not effect the GSP's and that Goni/Alveo you have in the immediate area. TinMan

No I gave it to my friend when I moved out of Ca. But last I checked it has grown to over 16" across. It takes up half his 46 gal. bow front. I wish you luck. I some pics of it in my gallery.
