I was adding new coral and moving around some others, and found this guy on one of the rocks so I scraped him off into a tuperware container with water. What is he? Good or bad?

Thanks

dont know, but I found a couple of those exact same things a while back

I highly doubt they are trouble, although they were interesting looking enough I took a couple pics as well.

Just looked briefly and couldnt find the pics. Wish I could as I got all serious and busted out the tripod evenas they have a very interesting pattern on their backs. They seem kind of like a soft shelled chiton. wouldnt surpise me if they are maybe related

im just posting so when Leslie answers I will know what they are as well :D

I dont *think* it is a chiton species

as I said, woudlnt surpise me if somehow similar , but it doesnt have the hard plates. While not "soft", it is quite soft in comparison to any chiton shells I have ever seen

Yeah, it's a chiton. Some are softer than others, and the plates are more visible in some than in others, but they're fairly apparent in this specimen.

Cheers,

Don

thanks joe, it seemed different than the typical super hard clear segments of most of the chitons I have seen

never could find the pics I mentioned doesnt matter now anyway, but since you are here....,.......I did find pics of this other strange critter I found last year........what do you think it is?? it is about 1/3"

The other critter is a flatworm. It looks quite similar to a Mediterranean species Stylochus plessisi - http://www.polyclads.net/lang.html

I would have never guessed it was a flatworm. It was fairly hard/firm, nothing like those typical clam/snail munching polyclads we often find in the hobby that can pour themselves down little tiny holes

since most are obligate feeders, what do you think that one might chow on??

Leslie rulez as usual. That's a very cool flatworm, flyyyguy. It looks like it's probably one of the species that mimics nudibranchs.

Cheers,

Don
