Please ID Tangs in Maui while Scuba Diving

Nice! Last year, there was a lone Hawaiian Longfin Anthias hanging out at Molokini. Was a real treat to see, as they almost never venture to recreational diving depths. This one was around 80 FSW.

Oh wow, how cool!

Here is a pair of Achilles we saw while snorkeling off of Lana'i (Saw a lot more there):

Here is a smaller pair of Achilles in the surge zone off of Molokini:

Large Whitetip Reef Sharf while scuba diving off of the Mala Wharf:

These were short videos for Facebook... need to put up the full ones later on...

In all honesty I think snorkeling in the Lana'i was the best.

The videos are 1000x better :P

Haven't got around to getting them off the laptop yet though...

I agree. The reefs on Lana'i are much better than those on Maui, save Molokini. Lana'i is well worth the extra effort. I had hoped to dive Moloka'i when we were there in October, but the conditions were not favorable on the Pailolo Channel. :(

BTW, were there still large numbers of Blacklip Butterflyfish (C. kleini) when you were visiting? They were everywhere in October, almost to the point of being annoying. See below:

Those bicolors are gorgeous, and HUGE! Beautiful! Is it yours? Do you have other videos hosted online? Thanks.

Yes, I shot that clip with a GoPro and Sola 800 light. I have a ton of video from the last trip that I still need to sort through, as well as some from earlier in the year. Going to try to post more over the holiday while I have some time off.

The bicolors are definitely awesome. I saw the same harem last year but ran out of battery before I could shoot them. I love how they aren't afraid of the light - very photogenic.

I'm sure I saw a few, just the first few times in the water I was so focused on finding a few fish that I pretty much had blinders on.

I have over 6 hours of videos in the water, I'll try to get them up soon and post them.

I even think I might have seen an Achilles Hybrid, but not 100% sure, need to go back and look. Looked a bit different than a normal Goldrim.

If you were on Lana'i, it's highly likely you did. I saw several while diving there.
