Please ID this crab.

Hello all. I have had my tank up and running nearly a year now and just recently discovered this crab. I am sure he is a predator, but not sure what type. Any help identifying him would be great. I would like to put him in my sump but need to know if this is a good idea or not.

Looks like some type of stone crab. As evil as those claws look, it has nice colors like a calico. How many inches is he?

He is only about an inch.

I would not return it to your main tank with fish or corals. Sump or give it away.

Looks like it might (!) be a Xantho lamarcki, at least it is something out of Xanthidae – predators. In a sump it is "happy" if You feed sometimes.

They can completely rebuild Your tank when they make a burrow out of rock… They carry stones many times bigger (and heavier of course) then themselves.
