Is this diatoms on my glass and sand? The snails like it whatever it is

I was not sure if I should leave this alone because it was part of the process of maturing and having chow for the fish and inverts.
I do know it is ugly as sin.

I used to leave one side wall with algae growth for my lawnmower blenny to eat. I didn't look through that side so it didn't bother me.

What is the best method to clean a front?
I'm setting up a GFO but want to remove what I can first. CUC is in the tank

no, leave pumps on, use mag float or what have you to scrape it off.

i'm surprised this is new to you?
This is my first tank. Never set one up before and little details are new to me.
Just too many setbacks for getting this thing going.
And now have surgery scheduled mid Feb. right when I was going to do a TTM:rolleye1::rolleye1::rolleye1:

IMO, get the tunze scraper, not a mag float. Mag floats start to suck when you have coralline growing, and if you're dumb (Really dumb) about using the magfloat in sand, you could scratch glass. I never did, and I am dumb, so there's that.
