OK maybe they have another name. _______Grandis? I have seen some on ebay and saw a post somewhere recently with some that had funky colors. I just can not find the post.
the old name and the one i still call them is protopalythoa grandis there has been a lot of talk on this name change im no scientist i just like the old names until i read proof on the corals changing names.wellsophylia is now trachyphyllia radiata but i still sell it as a wellso. in my shop . the reason is its really hard for most non hardcore reef keepers to keep up with the names let alone all the new reclassified names just my 2 cents.the coral that you saw that had funky colors if they were blue green or maybe a yellowish green tent may have been protopalythoa hawaiinsess(i think spelling?)they are banned from collection from what i have heard and up untill here recently me and another person that i bought mine from were the only i had ever seen .i could be totally wrong about this also so dont hold me to it lol!
I've seen two color morphs of palythoa grandis: brown and white marbled, and dark green, brown, white marbled.
I have both, but the dark green, brown, white marbled bleached out during a heat spike of a few weeks her in SoCal, OC. They are taking food and I hope to regain color loss.
Others have lost marbleing but are light translucent brown.
Polyps are about 3/4 inch diameter.
