Honestly he hasnt ever open up much past an approx. foot and a half .. He still has wonderful mantle groth and seems not to have any major problems, now my smaller one seems to open up much wider but the shell has been constructed differently. On the big one, the shell curves outward and then more in and up; whereas, the smaller one tends to be more open outward. My thinking is honestly when they start reaching a certain size then it grows more to fit the way the larger one looks, but i could be wrong and always enjoy feedback so thats my shot in the dark at it .

Here is a growth picture of my giga. When I got it, he was just barley 3", in a little under 2 years he has grown to 8" long, and opens up 7"+.

The giga? I thought there was only one color for giga...green w/ blue dots?

no actually there are 4 color types that I know of green , yellow , brown and blue being the rareity... the dots are usually either green or blue , purple sometimes depending on lighting and which way your looking at them... thats why i was asking cause I have always wanted a green or yellow! blues are too much $$ lol .. so my next option was the green or yellow ones...which i havent found outside of pics in books and such..

He looks green to me. I purchased him from reefermadness 2 years ago simply as a "giga".

Captive Reefer---- how long did it take your gigas to grow?

Which one? the biggest of the two has approx age of 7-10 years and the smaller one has around 3-5 years growth. The sqaumosa I have has approx age of 4-6 years and the two deresas I have are still within a 2 yr period of time.
