I emailed a RC sponsor about bleached anemones and this is part of their email response to me. I have omitted any part which states who they are. Anyway, read this and tell me what you think.

White is actually one of the natural colors for LT Anemones. See the link below to wetwebmedia.com for more information on Long Tentacle Anemones. You will see that they show photos of long tentacle anemones in the wild with similar white coloration. These anemones are not bleached either.

JK about the title

This happens all the time.

The white color that people keep talking about is not white its more of a creamish tan color and yes some anemones have it but a LTA that is white doesnt seem correct.

Alot of sebea anemones show up "White" its really a bleached tan or green anemone.

Id steer clear of that retailer, NO anemone should be clear or see through.

Yes Reefvette, I'm skeptical at best.

I emailed them when I saw one of their LTAs that says it blue but it's BARELY blue. It's mostly white. I asked why they would try to sell a bleached nem when they know it probably wouldn't survive shipping, and, even more importantly, why are they trying to sell a bleached anemone AT ALL. I didn't want to buy it, I was just browsing their anemones and saw it.

I do understand why dealers do sell them because its a business but i have seen some bleached anemones go for primo cash.

I am skeptical of VERY BLUE and VERY GREEN anemones, I have seen haddons carpets where the anemones tentacles were blue the mouth was red, when the anemone opening it mouth and exposed its inerds there was blue, not white like most anemones but blue streaking.

Sebea most commonly have this happen and most dont survive.

Well, I guess technically they are correct, since they didn't dye it. But, white isn't a color for a HEALTHY LTA (( M. doreensis )).

Case in point, here is a picture of a white one that I received a couple of years ago,

(( the white balance was off in this pic, but you can still see how it was "white"/bleached ))

Yes, I agree with both of you. The bleached nem I'm nursing back to health looks like your first picture Todd, but some of the tentacles are slowly turning tan. I'm bothered by this vendor's response because you can tell that "blue" anemone is bleaching--it's so obvious.

Regarding a blue anemone, my thought was maybe its true color is purple...?
