Same here Chris, Friday when I can give more.
It breaks my heart to see that beautiful city devistated and all of the peoples lives destroyed.
Can someone please sticky this post?

My best friend from College lives in Slidell (Joe do you remember Nate from Southampton?). Him and his wife evacacuated to his Mom's,well ,inland and are fine. They figure at the best thier house and one car are completely flooded. Don't know when they will be able to go back and assess the damage. And then they figure the one thing they will need most is friends to help clean up the debris, but don't expect that officials will allow anyone other than residents in town for quite some time.

For those able, it's always good to give blood if you can--there willalmost certainly be a shortage once they get the hospitals out from under water and the patients moved.

Done..

Bill,

Thanks for posting the link. It's tragedy like this that makes me understand more and more when I was kid and my grandma use to tell me... "Always remember to count your blessings Jonathan...." Man, after these last five years, I really understand what she meant.

That's a great idea Christine---I didn't even think of that.

I tried to give blood in April but I was considered too small. I might try again.

The minimum weight is 110lbs right?

Jon, you're so right, I thank god everyday.
I'm a current donor, I am going to move my appointment up.
Liana, you're very petite, you may never be able to give blood. My wife is 32 and has never been able to give blood because of her size.

That's the problem I had last time when we did the annual drive at school. I have "great veins" though and really wish I could donate...what would happen to me?

Liana,

It may make you very weak and light headed for a few hours. However, you are an athlete and being so active, you may be fine. If you don't meet the weight req., it may not matter. A prayer for those folks can go a long way.

Liana--it's 110. just go and wear a thick sweatshirt and lie. They don't weigh you. Eat before you go, drink plenty of fluids that day and you'd be fine. Sit up slowly when you're done. It took me 30 minutes total--longer for the paperwork than the actual donation, and they are desperate according to the blood bank--

Christine

Just be careful Liana, you may not be able to do gymnastics right away, maybe a couple of days. That's why there is a 110 weight limit.;)

I'm sad to say I can never donate blood since I have poison running in my veins. ( had malaria twice and hepatitis ) but I am making a monetary donation.

Plus your military service would exempt you--they have strange regulations now. The usual, like no IV drug users, but also no one who visited the UK between 1980 and 1996 (I suppose because of the risk of mad cow I guess.
Sorry to hear about your malaria--hope you don't get recurrences.

I BARELY make 110. That's the heaviest I've ever weighed in. I'm hoping I'll look big enough and be able to do it. I'm going to talk to my parents.

That's what I'm worried about Bill. I'm a top all around on my team and my coach wont let me miss practice. I seriously CANT pass out. I have practice 6 days a week, what am I supposed to do?

Liana--if you don't give, don't kill yourself over it. The fact that you're just trying says a lot about your character. Wait until after the season--there's always a need.

Christine

Time? What time? :lmao: With school starting next week there will be no such thing as extra time. :P

I'm going to find a long weekend where I dont have practice. If we get off on Saturday morning, I could go Friday afternoon or something.
