filter sock looks dirty to me in the pic...i had the same problem, if i didnt change the sock almost daily it would crude up and start overflowing, sadly for me the sock was well above the water line and leaning on the trim of the tank...took no time for it to overflow onto the floor...needless to say i run sockless for now until i can redo the sump...i just drain and clean my sump monthly...it is easier for me that way...for more then one reason...***wifey tells me that anyway**

I agree. I think your problem probably is that the sock is dirty (clogged) and hence, overflowing.

Change the sock more often. I change my sock twice a week.

Allowing the sock to go for a month at a time could be more detrimental than beneficial. All that crud accumulating in the sock is sitting there and decomposing and giving off nitrates. The goal of usiing a sock in the first place is to catch AND REMOVE the crud BEFORE it breaks down into nitrates.

You could also try using a 200 micron sock instead of a 100 micron sock. Won't clog quite as quickly.

I clean the sock every two days and to answer james3370 the pipe is abour 4" below the water line. If i take the sock off, i still have bubbles.
coralfragger101 stated to maybe use 200 micron sock. that might be a good idea.
I will purchase one and send reply back.
