Plumbing Check List

I'm about to start plumbing my first sump system. It's a custom 200g with a herbie center overflow.

Here is what I'm thinking. Please tell me what issues or suggestions you might have. Thanks in advance.

MAIN DRAIN: 2in bulkhead
-PVC to union
-From union run PVC to Spears gate valve (highest end I can find)
-PVC to union
-From there run flexi PVC to sock

EMERGENCY DRAIN: 2in bulkhead
-PVC straight down into sump (probably need an elbow or two but I figure it doesn't really matter where this one dumps within the sump since it's just emergency)

RETURN: 2x1.5in bulkheads
-PVC down from each to a union on each
-Flexi PVC to t-joint.
-T-joint PVC to a large check valve (sump can handle flow back but I figure this is still a good idea)
-PVC to union
-PVC to pump

So I'm trying to put unions wherever it makes sense. I also don't know if I should be installing any ball valves anywhere on the return. I was thinking making at the bottom? Or at the top straight off the two lines?

Thanks for the help y'all.

I'm doing a herbie as well.

Main drain:
Strainer
Bulkhead
Threaded/slip connector
Union
Gate valve
Pipe to sump

Emergency drain
Cap with hole drilled
T
Elbow
Strainer (make a durso standpipe...even if it is an emergency drain you may have to run it for a bit until you can fix your main drain. At least it would be tolerably quiet this way)
Pipe
Slip/threaded bulkhead
Threaded/slip connector
Pvc pipe straight down to sump.
