Plumbing Design Help

I am getting ready to rework the plumbing on my 120 gallon reeftank.

I have a new reef ready 120 acrylic with a single overflow. It will go down into a 45 gallon refugium. I will be running a Octo Extreme 200 Skimmer, then the fuge, then returning with probably an Eheim 1262. The refugium itself has bulkheads built in for a 1" inlet and a 3/4" return.

So my question is how should I run the piping? This is my first crack at doing this myself and I want to make sure to do it right the first time.

What kind of standpipe should I use? My new tank didn't come with a standpipe and I dont want the water falling 20+ inches to the drain.

What kind of piping? Rigid PVC, Flex PVC, Vinyl?

What valves should I have in the piping? Check, Ball, What else?

If anyone has a diagram or something that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks.

I'd use rigid pipe, no check valves. I'd only put a ball valve on the return to the main tank.

personally i would use unions on the inlet and out let of the pump also with ball valve on each side also to make removal of pump easy if something were to happen to the pump

I would say stay away from Clear flex tubing as that will allow algae growth and could cause you a lot of headaches in the future.
