You do not have to use thread to pipe everywhere.
Slip fittings allow direct pipe to anything like unions & reducers.
Do NOT reduce the exit of the pump, increase it if you can.
If it has to be reduced it should be as close that fitting as possible.
With a variable speed pump there is no need for a valve in the line.
- The goal for thread to pipe connector is to have maximum flexibility. With slip fitting everything is permanently connected without possibility disassembling.
- Originally I wasn't going to reduce the pump exit. But NPT Connector for Modular Hose, Lock-Line Hose and Flare Nozzle has max diameter 3/4". Does it matter where to set the reducing?
- The Valve was added to have possibility to lock pipe if required
There is more chance of leaks with threads, & unions allowing removal of sections come slip fit. Reducing @ the last place a size decrease is needed is best & anything underwater needs a plastic clamp.
If the sump is made with enough room for drain down there is no need for a valve.
If you still want it make sure it is easily accessible or it's useless.
1 more thing - Teflon paste should be used with threads NOT tape.
