Plumbing for 2 tanks

I currently have 2 tanks plumbed to one sump, everything is my basement. I'm planning on moving one tank to the living room, leaving the other one and the sump in the basement.

Should I have the tank upstairs overflow to the tank in the basement, and that tank overflow to the sump? or should I have the two tanks overflow to the sump with an individual return for each one?

Best way would have both tanks have separate return to the sump.

Sounds like a nightmare to do it the other way if its a display also. You would have ton of bubbles and noise in the second display.
