what type off overflows do you have.Are they drilled in the tank or HOB so you have a piece of glass on the top back half of your tank and its drilled so you run your return lines feed that way.Why did the guy do it that way.I have seen it done but I find you can see the plumbing.What size are the return lines?If they are 1" its pretty big so you will see the pipes.Will you have a canopy or no cover at all.The plumbing will be visible.I don't know how your wife will like the look.

Actually you are right you will see the plumbing along the back wall. The tank itself is drilled with 1 - 1.5" hole in each corner with a 6x6 overflow box around it. Hopefully I can hide it fairly well with rock. As far as the wife goes she could care less. It is in my finished basement so it really does not bother her. I answered your pm with my # give me a call if you can.

I have a dart on a 120 gallon with two overflows in the corner. each over flow has a 1" bulkhead. My sump is 100 gallons. I have it filled with about 50 to 60 gallons. You will not have a problem with the dart pumping faster then the overflows. You can always put a union with a ball valve to throtle back the pump. but with a 300 gallon you will need more flow as Steve said.

I will give you a call,so the overflow box is outside the tank or inside the tank and now it should be lower than your return lines but since you are coming from the top of your tank you can adjust them to the height that you like.I would do the return lines about 1" below the top of your teeth maybe 1 1/2" below the top of the teeth does this overflow go directly into the pipe and down to the sump or is it like a HOB type with the U tube.This type suck because the siphon tube can become clogged.I assume its not that type since the tank was designed by a reefer.Show some pics of it.Another thing is will you do some kind of durso pipe for that.I can tell you the dam thing are loud when you hear water splashing down the overflow.

You mentioned the tank is acrylic so its pretty easy to drill.I would consider drilling a hole for a 1 1/2" bulkhead in the bottom of the tank.You can make it in the middle and pile some rock work around it this way you are taking water from the bottom of the tank and recirculating it to the top.You could do two drains and merge them into the one but it not necessary.Get another pump for your return.Since you mention there will be no corals the flow doesn't have to be as much.This way you will get some circulation from the bottom of the tank.You still don't want dead spots or you will end up with cyano or dead spots in the substrate can cause nitrate problems
