Plumbing My Chiller

I'm ready. I've gotten all my equipment, supplies, plumbing parts.
I've got some questions on plumbing the tank.
100 gallons, 30 gallon sump/fuge. I've got a 1.5" drain from the tank into the sump. On the other side of the tank, I've got a 1.5" drain to a closed loop, with a DART connected to an OM Super Squirt 1". The rear wall at the bottom has two OM outlets and the top front has two, with 360 degree Revolutions. I've got a Wave2K wavebox in the center.

I have a question about where to plumb in the chiller. I was thinking to tee it off the CL, and then return back into the sump. Does this defeat the concept of a Closed Loop? Should I plumb it in the sump with, say a Mag 5 -it's a 1/6 HP Aquamedic chiller? Should I plumb it into the return line from the sump?

I'm ready to go and any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I would leave the CL as is, the chiller is probably not rated much over 400-600Gph

I have a similar setup and initially setup my chiller with the sump return to the display. So water is forced thru the chiller then back to the main tank.

I did remove this (and it was working just fine) when I added a separate return pump (aquaflow 70) so I could have an active carbon filter setup. I run the pump in the last chamber of the sump, to the chiller and back into the sump and it discharges thru a carbon canister (Magnum350 part). The Mag 5 will work just fine, you can pull water from the sump, to chiller, back to sump.

Thanks for the info. You run your return from the chiller into a carbon filter... Okay. Every little bit helps.

I was trying to reduce the number of pumps in my system and getting the ones I could out of the water (Heat).

On top of that I have never thought much of just tossing carbon bags into the sump and expecting them to be very efficient. So I got the magnum350 to try that out and it worked great (for a week) and then it started making a ton of noise and quit pumping. I could not get it working and so that was when I pulled the carbon canister out of it and set it in the sump. The 1" return line from the chiller fit perfect in the top of the thing and has been there ever since.

It holds about 1/3 of a pound of BlackDiamond and I change it out every month.
