Plumbing Question

Has anyone got any suggestions for stopping a small leak on PVC without cutting out the leaking pieces and redoing them? :sad2: It is on the overflow to the sump so the only pressure is the weight of the water and gravity. Would love for someone to tell me a little silicone would do the trick. ;)

Just redo it with a coupler. You could use some plumber putty, but I wouldn't be comfortable doing it on my tank, so I don't really recommend it as a long term solution.

I'm assuming it's leaking at a joint:

You may be able to wipe the area of the leak with primer, then gob on some cement where the leak is, and let it dry well.

Plumber's Goop works well but it needs about 12 hours to cure. Don't know if that is an option for you but I've repaired many a leak with it. Far superior to silicone.

it would help very much if you could please explain a bit more in depth on what is actually leaking .i know its the overflow line but is it hard pvc or at a connection or what is it as there are so many things that it could be .please help us help you ?

It is at a fitting from hard pvc to a 90. Leaking a 5-10 drips an hour. It is on a new setup so nothing in it right now but saltwater. I shouldn't have any problem taking it down for 12 or even 24 hours for something to cure. There isn't much room in there as it goes from a fitting to pvc to 90 degree fitting. I will probably try patching with either the plumbers goop or the aquamend first and if it doesn't hold I guess I will have to cut everything and start fresh (definitely not what I want to do). Hey at least it leaked before I got everything in there. :)

Thank goodness! I was going to offer suggestions Seth but I'm pretty much a noob to silicon-work.

I have used plumbers goop several times and it has always worked very well for me. Just coat the crap out of it and it should be solid. But like Dave said, you really do need to let it dry for 12 or more hours.

@ Mel- I appreciate the thought anyway. I am terrible at plumbing/silicone work (ironic I know as I like fish tanks so much)

@ ZombieFlesh- I will use the whole canister if it will keep this stupid plumbing from leaking.
