Plumbing questions

Hello guys, tank should be showing up this week, its coming from Texas so hopefully they left before the storm hit. (BTW hope everyone here from Texas are safe and sound)

I am getting a white Red Sea Reefer that will benefit a lot with those red sexy plumbing I've seen in pics around. My plan is to buy the white stuff and spray paint it to save some $$. I've read it should be left about a week to dry before use for cure, is it all or do I have to treat it with something else? Any tips on the preparation?

Also, since I've been waiting for the tank for about 2 weeks now I want to get ahead of the game and start prepping the PVC now if possible, I just don't know the amount and diameter of plumbing I'll need. is it standard size?

This is my setup:

- Tank: Reefer 350
- Return pump: Sicce Syncra 3.0
- Skimmer: Reef Octopus Classic 152-S
- Powerheads: Jebao PP8 (x2)

I don't know what size bulkheads they use so I can't answer that (without going and just looking at the instructions as I'd expect its stated there)..

But I can tell you that proper preparation of the pipe is key to long term adhesion.. I'd wash it thoroughly with mild soap/water then give it a good wipe down with alcohol to remove any residual oils,etc...
Many have had good luck with Krylon Fusion on PVC but any spray paint should be just fine..

Use clear PVC glue on it too and expect runs/crappy spots for the most part.. IMO just buy red PVC already for any areas that you will see.. The cost is pretty darn cheap and the amount you need isn't that much at all..
BRS sells it along with others.. Even HD has it (special order I believe)

If you really want red, I'd do like mcgyvr said and just buy it that way. www.savko.com and www.usplastics.com both have everything you'll need as well.

It's not that spray paint won't work - I did it for the pvc in back of my 120DT - but it isn't really seen - I just wanted it to blend in better with the black paint on the back panel. Where it goes into the sump area I left it white.

It's also a bit of a pia. To get good joints, you'll need to tape off that part of each piece, touch up where the pvc cement has caused drips/runs, etc. If I really cared what the end result looked like, I'd have used black pvc instead of paint.

mc, would the below info from Red Sea help? if not, let me know what is and I'll find it.

Return Pump 3/4" threaded hose barb "“ Pipe Int. Dia 16mm (5/8")

Typically how much pipe, elbows, tees and sort would I need?...Keep in mind this will be my first ever setup so I have no idea what I will find once I start putting stuff together. So forgive me if I'm asking for something that seems ovious.

If you need more tech info about my equipment let me know and I'll dig it up.

Which red sea reefer did you get?
The information you stated seems applicable to the return pump but doesn't mention anything about bulkhead sizes,etc...

I don't own one but I can help you find the information..

I am getting the 350. BTW just found out from BRS they messed up the order and will be delayed one more week :sad1:

Oh metric is in your future I believe..

Found this.. whatever thats supposed to mean..

The inlet and over flow pipe work on all Reefers is 25mm the main down flow is 32mm on all Reefers hope this helps.

But wait... Isn't all the piping included with them as its a complete system?

I saw that too! I opened a thread in the tank forum because of the metric matter. I read a lot of threads where people were mentioning it.

It does come with the plumbing but I believe is all hoses and stuff.
To get on the good side of the wife I wanted to have a pretty job under the hood (I like it too I admit it) and I am not sure that can be achieved as good with soft plumbing. I'll wait to see what I get from the other question from owners who may have attempted the switch....otherwise I'll have to do my best with the hoses.
