Plumbing questions...

I am setting up a 40 breeder and have some questions about plumbing it. It has a back right corner overflow with two holes drilled in the bottom. One hole is 1.75 inches and the other is 1.5 inches. What would be the best thing to do in terms of plumbing for this tank. I am going to have another 40 breeder as a sump/fuge under this tank. Should I use both as drain pipes, or one as a return?

Thanks for the help.

What is the advantage of doing that instead of just plumbing my own return line back into the tank? It seems like having two drain pipes would be beneficial because you could get more flow through the sump, and it would be a lot quieter because it is splitting the water between two pipes.

imho i would use both holes as drains. increased flow is the reason. more water out, bigger pump for flow back in.

your talking close to a 1000 gph through an 1 3/4 bulkhead..plenty of drainage for a 40 gal. you can still split returns if you want.

I am planning on using a mag 7 for return, with some of it T-valved off to a fuge, if that helps you think about this any...

You should be careful with amount of flow that you want to push through those drains. Your corner overflow can only process a certain amount of water effectively through its teeth. How big are the teeth and whats the linear length of the overflow box?

My 120g tank is the same way with a right rear overflow and 2 holes. I use them both for drains and return over the top with an Oceans Motion 4 way. I like the fact that if one clogs I have a back up.
