plumbing....

is so much fun. like a puzzle. wheeeeeeee. but then you end up missing one part and lowe's is closed. boohoo. beer please.

Yeah, its an experience all right. I ended up buying more parts than needed and just took all the extras back at the end of the fun. What I hated was when I needed a part that Lowes or Home Depot didn't have. I had to wait 2 days for USplastics to deliver. Its always fun paying $12 for a $0.35 part!

I just finished plumbing my second tank, a 50 gallon one mainly for frag propagation. I got the bulkheads at the frag swap, and all else from Lowes (took ONLY two trips! hehe). I bought a Poseidon external pump and can't believe how quiet it is... I literally don't hear it, and can barely even feel it vibrate. It's output is so great that I've got to turn it down with a ball valve. That pump plus two sea swirls should keep things stirred up. I may add the modified Maxijet 900, we'll see when I get things set up!

i'm plumbing the 90's closed loop right now. a dart with 3 3/4" outputs and a 1" seaswirl. i can't wait to crank it up. but like an idiot i forgot to get 1" to 3/4" reducers and have to wait until lowe's opens tomorrow.

and yes i will have a lot of stuff left over to take back.

Glad you guys brought up plumbing. Being a nanofile I havent had to do much plumbing. On a "regular" drilled reef tank with a fuge/sump do you need a mechanical filter? If so how do you plumb it in line with the fuge/sump.

some people will use micro socks but i don't use anything other than a protein skimmer, carbon and my live rock/sand for any kind of filtration.

joey, i dont know what youre schedule is and where you can go but.... if you go to memphis wholesale plumbing supply you can get parts there. speak to my dad, his name is kevin, and he will take care of you. just say youre steves friend, and youre plumbing an aquarium. theyre located at 3638 s. goodlet st. on the corner of goodlet and lamar right past winchester. thats where all of dustins plumbing came from. if he doesnt stock it (true union ball valves etc) he can get it quick and blow away hd/lowes and the aquarium vendors prices by ALOT. HTH<~~~steve
