Hello guys have a bit of a problem I have a juv Emperor angel he is decent size think about to change. I had him for a year now in a 150g fish and coral tank big protein skimmer sump/fug whole nine yards everything been great all year he owns the tank and he knows it but the last week or 2 his colors have faded dramatically and his usually clear fins are looking a little raged and cloudy if that makes sense. I have also noticed little 1/2 circle indention on his face like someone took a bb and pushed it in his face 1/2 way then pulled it out. he is also a little twitchy and rubbing a little on rocks and is going to the cleaner shrimp a lot. sorry to be long winded just want to be thorough. plz help me I love this fish he is the prize of my tank

Hi Eric. Ragged fins sounds like bacterial infection. You should catch him with the jar method (large jar) and qt him with antibacterial meds. He might have ich too so lower salinty could help and relieve him of stress.

I'm not that knowledgeable so maybe someone else will chime in with ideas.

now both my clowns fins are not looking good :( . im pretty sure its not ich I've had ich b4 on several fish no spots at all no little micro bubbles :). plz tell me of this jar method because I cannot catch a single fish in my reef without having to take out everything from the tank LoL plz teach me a way

ok i have done new water tests results are as follows
P.H. 8.0
Ammonia 0
Nitrate 10
Nitrite 0.2
Salinity 1.024
and temp is at 80 on the nose

I am aware the nitrite is bad tank is 2 years old and this is first test that ever had nitrite so I am doing a 20% water change as soon as im done with this post also will lower salinaty a little not sure how I let that get a little high any info would be great plz

There's a thread under All Things Salty by Anthony Calfo that I learned the methods to catch fish. It's called How to Catch Fish and...in a reef. It's a sticky. If they'll eat you can catch them. If they're not eating they may not be able to be caught as the food lures them in.

Have you read under the fish disease forum about brooknylia or marine velvet?
