PO4X4 phosphate remover

My take as a skeptical individual

My take as a skeptical individual

My take:

From their website:

Almost every other iron based GFO

[From my understanding of the English language this sentence tells me that their product is GFO based]

is releasing iron-ions to the water up to 10 times more than natural seawater levels. This is tested and confirmed at the university of Wageningen, Holland. The tests were done with a inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer.

Wouldnt it be nice to post a reference here? Statements without references are known as HYPE

Our novel PO4X4 Phosphate Remover is a unique chemical engineered polymer based mini pellets that does not have these down sides. In other words, there is hardly any leaking of Iron-ions, the pellets do not clump together and can be readily used in fluidized filters. They have a very high surface area and can absorb approximately 4 times more phosphate then most other phosphate removing products. 250 ml will remove 3 ppm of phosphate and silicate from roughly 8.000 liter of fresh water or 4.000 liter of marine water. Do not overdose! Rapid changes in phosphate can negatively affect your animals. Use small amounts of PO4X4 to gradually lower the phosphate levels in your aquarium.

4x which products? GFO or aluminum oxide
and based on what?
volume weight price etc.

1 liter of standard GFO will absorb 1ppm from 833 to 1000 gallons of salt water in a flow through reactor and approximately 3-4x this amount in a fluidized bed.

their claim is 250ml 3ppm per 4000liters or approx 1000 gallons
so 1 Liter should remove 1ppm from 12000 gallons

They are claiming 3x the efficiency of standard GFO
They are saying their product is GFO based and is also a polymer
Their product looks like GFO in their pictures

I would like to see a published scientific reference for their statements. Or for that matter an independant review.

I will try this product in my tank with no sps no fish no lps no nothing but liverock and algae .
I started my tank for 50days and still waiting for the reduce of the algae.

an importer here says he's gonna send me a bag to try and I am waiting.

BTW what does "GFO" mean ? I dont speak English so anyone can help ?

I am using rowaphos in a fluidized reactor and feel sucks, the water became red then yellow for 1 week , now I have turned it off. I was using an ehein 1001 and switch to 150L/h and still , the water is polluting by it.no matter I use a large wolume or a small volume, I think rowaphos is a good product but I just feel hard to effectively and safely use it.

GFO Is granular ferric oxide the same thing as rowaphos which is brand of GFO. In a reactor are you running it at a very high flow rate? Also are you rinsing the media before you addition it to your system?

Thanks!

I run only 150L/h(40G/h) that is a very low flow rate i think.

and I did rinse the rowa first . I run the reactor for 5 days , reactor seem to be clean but as a matter of fact it still slowly taking out dust, because my skimmer continue making very yellow water.
After I turned off the reactor, just one night the water is so clean now

Are you happy with the phosphate reactor or are you considering taking it offline?

Ive never had that issue with gfo and rowa is supposedly good gfo. You much not have rinsed it enough is all I can think of cause I tubble mine pretty good (200gph) in reactors and have clear water. Also my skimmer gunk is the usual.

Like Greg said, it seems like a hyped up coated gfo pellet. When they find a cheap and efficient gfo alternative Ill be interested but think gfo works fine. If rinsed well I doubt the iron leaching will have any ill effects. Macros use it and Im sure stonys use atleast some too.

I rinse mine while doing a small waterchange, I hook up the reactor w/ new gfo in sump and pump the output into a bucket until it runs clear. Usually takes 3-4g.

of course I am not happy with the reactor, I will never use Rowaphos in reactor again.

Reacor needs physically stable absorber , to avoid polluting water.

Thorough rinsing and a fine sponge before the output usually will do the trick. If you don't have a sponge right before the exit then all the 'fines' will make their way out into the water column. Also, you don't need to tumble the gfo very fast. This will cause it to grind and cause far to many fine dust like particles. The slower the flow rate the better. Sometimes this can be overlooked when starting gfo.

I rinsed my Rowa. and even if rowa leaves :fines" to water, skimmer will take them out , 2days most. But my experience using reactor is that seems clear enough water come out , but water still not clear in 1 week . so I turned off. one night it;s all clear.
I think that is not only "fines" come out, but also invisible "fines",very very tiny that you cant notice that will through a small quantity water, but it is obvious when look throgh a large volume water.

Back to PO4X4 it camed and it will easily be rolling in a reactor, very clean of course.

But PO4 in my tank never reached a high level yet (0-0.03), so I do not need to use PO4 X4 yet.

All I can say now is this will be a material much cleaner and easier to use .

I have have been using the PO4X4 Phosphate Remover AND IT'S BEEN WORKING EXCELLENT. I like it b/c there is hardly any leaking of Iron-ions & the fact that the pellets do not clump together. I was using BRS HC GFO for about a year but was not getting my PO4 lower than 0.05 until I started running this product. In my opinion, it's the best phosphate remover on the market. It has currently brought my PO4 down to 0.02 where I am testing at on my Hanna Checker UL.. If you're having any issues with your Phosphate I WOULD STRONGLY suggest giving this a shot!

I tried almost every reactor on the market and I always seem to go back to the BRS DUAL or single reactor! I run the p04x4 on 1 side and the ROX Carbon on the other side w/ a Two Little fishes Ball Valves!
