Pocillopora damicornis

I treat mine just like all the other sps in my tank. High light, med-high intermittent flow from a wave maker.

Care is similar but they are much more tolerant of mistakes. Mine tend to lose some color if params jump but stay healthy. I have 3 in my tank and the ugliest one likes to spread around a lot via polyp bailout, something to keep in mind.

In this pic of my suffering Purple Fuz acro (Alk spike) you can see a poci in the lower left corner that I did not notice until I took this pic.

ouch, the acro is painful to look at :(

and thats a really tiny poci! sounds awesome to have them sprout randomly on live rocks though!

They can sting, hard. Might not be so awesome at times, so just keep that in mind. :) I do like corals that spread though, you just need to know what you're in for. :)

And yes, that acro makes me sad. Hardest hit by the Alk spike, completely unexpected.

they can sting? I never knew them to be aggressive corals. By sting you mean an aggressive takeover of neighbouring corals or actually stinging people?

Hope your acro is doing better now

They sting and kill nearby corals with sweepers. Small but effective against other sps. So far mine seems to win against montis, birdsnests, blue clove polyps. Not sure if they can kill acros and I'd rather not find out. :)

Be careful mine start spawning and cover my all tank
I end up selling entire colony and cover about 40 of them with epoxy

This! They grow fast and under the right conditions will pop up everywhere. My previous 220 had this issue which ended being a huge headache to try to control.
Great coral to get your feet wet.

I bought a frag of this and 1 year later I have 7 frags of the same size. Grows like weeds. I have it high med and low light - seems to grow the same. And one of them put out some sweepers and bleached some green birdnest about 1/2" away. I' moved them away from all my other SPS and strongly thinking of finding them new homes.
