Pocillopora Question!!!!!

I just bought a Pocillopora from my LFS. A customer with a successful SPS tank bought it in as he was making room for more coral. I have MH 2 x150w 20k, but not sure if its good enough for sps. I placed this guy at the very top of the LR and he looks to be going ok. I also have 2 x MP 40's for water circulation but not sure if this sps needs strong water flow? The polyps are all out but they tend to look like they are getting smashed around a bit. I herd if the flow is too strong the polyps will not extend, however the polyps on this pocillopora are still out. Can strong flow affect the coral? or cause polyps to tare off? And is the placement at the top of the rock 4-5 inches from the surface ok?

Any answers would be appreciated.

How big is your tank/Dimensions?

Lighting is fine, and you want the polyps to sway but not be blasted.

Mine is near the top of my tank under 250w halides and has medium flow

Water flow and lighting should be ample just don't blast it

Poccilloporas are very forgiving in my experience and will do well even if you have a few bumps in the road. You should be fine.

Mine is getting blasted by an MP10 and is literally growing to the surface of the water, 3 inches away from non-dimmed LEDs. I've also had frags do well in other areas of the tank. They are not too fussy if you ask me.

It is probably just acclimating, most likely to your flow, but you may want to check alkalinity too. I've noticed they can be sensitive to high levels. High flow usually equals thickening branches, especially for Pocci's.

Pocillopora are very easy to care for and they do fine even under led lighting.....which is another topic. But my experience with pocillopora has been very bad. I'm not sure what the scientific correct word is, but it started showing up everywhere in my tank. I literally couldn't kill it. Very invasive coral in my opinion, even growing right in the middle of large zooanthid colonies. I will never put one in my tank again.
