Pods and tank question

hey! My tank has cycled and i have some damsels in atm, there seems to be brown spots on the sand bed, is this normal? And can i use copper medication if there are coperepods?

I'm new to this but...
Wouldn't the brown spots just be a small diatom bloom?
Why do you want to run copper in your display? Isn't that for ich?
Aren't copepods good for your tank as food for fish etc?

Dont start adding anything. In a new tank all you need are the basics. Water flow , LR , SB and water changes with ro water.
Are you missing anything?

I think copper kills the bacteria on live rock but if DEF kills inverts like snails, crabs, shrimp, and CORALS!! Worse the copper will get soaked up into the silicone and you may never again be able to keep these critters in that tank as it slowly leaches out into the water.

If you want a reef DO NOT add copper. You will not be able to get rid of it easily and if you ever want a clean up crew or corals you cannot have copper in there.....

Here's some stuff TO DO
1. Add some info about yourself and your tank to your signature on your profile.
2. Read the stickys in the newbie section.
3. Read other stuff in the newbie section.....
4. Do a water change with RO/DI.
5. Look at your damsel....see how pretty he is....nice fishy.....remember this time because you won't always feel that way...but THAT'S OK!!!!!
6. Go get something to eat.....
7. Read some more and wonder if all these things apply to your tank....forget most of what you've read.....most of it doesn't apply....yet.....
8. Check out nineballs canada build.... or Moshe' 450 gal pail....or D2mini's sweet cube tank!!!!! These three will take at least 2 weeks....you shul dprobably do a WC in there somewhere......

Enjoy.....

I do not have LR, LS, nor a CUC. I MIGHT (notice the word might) set up a QT. Then i will get a CUC and that good stuff. So i was just wondering if it would kill coperpods. will it? And would a picture of the sand bed help? is there any way to get rid of it?

You are seeing a diatom bloom. Don't ever dose copper in your display tank. It will kill all inverts and future inverts.

huh, no live rock or live sand and it is cycled?

+1

I really doubt this tank is cycled, it is probably PRE-cycle..everything tests great when you first throw water in an empty tank. If you are just now seeing diatomes and copepods and for whatever reason want to nuke your tank with copper, you need to do some serious reading.
