Pods Vs. Zoos

I have been reading the forums and I noticed multiple articles regarding pod destruction over zoos. I recently purchased three colonies of zoos and I am concerend that the pods within my tank will kill my new additions.

Is this correct? If so, what can I do?

Thanks for any help provided.

No because a bunch of us have actually witnessed large ampipods roughly 1cm big litteraly tear into NEW zoo's during the night time... I've witnessed them almost everynight for 3 weeks or so demolish several colonies....

There are more types of copepods and ampipods out there besides your normal/harmless pods... some are actually known to swarm and attack bigger animals....like corals etc....

I have had some zoa death potentially due to pods. For some reason, any type of PE (RPE and green PE) that I had in my tank were eaten. You can be sure that I'm not ready to spend money on PPE's. Instead, I will be investing in a six-line wrasse or a mandarin (although I'm concerned about getting one for a tank as small as mine).

Amphipods wiped me clean when i first started with zoas. I watched it night after night, it was obvious to me what was happening but at that time it was not accepted that amphipods ate zoas and i was basically told i was crazy. I was told time and time again that "my zoas are already dieing and the pods are just cleaning it up"... My sixline fixed the pods and i have several hundred zoos and palys now.

Some do eat them and some don't. They seem to favor any of the pe family like so many of us have witnessed. No need for me to keep trying to convince some people it's not a fluke. If they start eating your zoa's yopu'll have to get a fish to keep them in check.

This new "idea" that pods are eating zoa's will take time to be accepted.

They don't only eat PE's, they were going after mostly very colorful zoo's ... like RDE's, super bright green caribeans, oxides, bright oranges, etc.... I lost several colonies... but they never touched my PE's... thank god cause i'd nuke my tank if they went after my PPE's, True AOG's, Tubs, rainbows etc.....

My tank is loaded with amphipods and I just added three frags of zoos. Haven't seen any pods munching on my new additions.

there are hundreds of different types of pods/ampipods out there, if your the unlucky few that has those bad types.. then your in the suck part like myself and others...

I've converted my tank to a fully wrasse tank and hardly any pods survive now and teamed up with a mandarin too...

This has been an ongoing arguement about "pods".

I do believe that there are some Amphipods that would attack healthy zoas. Especially since there have been a lot of people that have said it happened to them. For the most part, the average zoa-keeper does not have zoa eating amphipods.

So, if you're unlucky, it is possible you have them.
