Pods

Is anyone still raising pods? I have a 70 gallon tank that is only about a year old and for much of that time it only had rock in it. The rock I used was dry. I don't want to take rock from my other tank because of bristle worms and those little stars and a massive overgrowth of turf algae that I don't want to transfer. I want to get pods growing in there. Thoughts? Ideas?

It has been a while since I have posted.

Do you have a fuge with chaeto? Maybe just grab the ball and shake it in the pod-less tank and see if that gets them started. I wouldn't worry about a few bristle worms or astrea stars. They're generally good tank inhabitants that keep the place tidy. They can be a problem, but rarely are.

If you don't want to try the above, or can't, grabbing a chaeto clipping from someone local would probably get the seeding started off just fine.

I have the ability of being a super grower of astrea stars and bristleworms. :) The stars are what mostly bother me. They really do a job on coraline algae. I don't have a fuge on this tank. I do have a blob of the red dragons breath algae from Wet Pets and have thought of sticking a similar bunch of cheato in the tank. I don't want to drill this tank and I worry about weirs causing flooding and the noise. I want this tank as quiet as possible. I have thought about building a box to make an internal tank refugium.

You can get a clip of cheato from me if you need, I have tons of pods in the tank. Some look more like shrimp they are so big. :) but I think mikencarol was raising some you might give him a pm. I had the same issue with asterina stars and finally broke down and bought a harliquin shrimp. They are very cool, but you would be amazed at how fast they will devestate the asterine star population. They will also attack sea cucumbers. Good luck and lmk if you need some cheato I farm it regularly.
