Poison Cone Snail?

Rarely, but I've heard of it happening before. The kind that hitchhike I don't be believe are as venomous as the fish eating ones found in the wild. They're not strike on sight animals either like mantis, sharks, etc.. you would have to be trying to get speared or getting a good look at it holding the shell for anything like that to happen. I haven't read up on cones is awhile, but the last thing I read mentioned only 15 deaths via snails.

I actually don't think there has ever been a case of one of the dangerous ones being found as a hitchhiker. I know of a couple of cases of small worm-eating species being found tucked into rocks. They aren't dangerous. The piscivorous cones are the dangerous ones, although a couple of species of molluscivorous cones could make you sick. All of these are fairly large, not something you'd be likely to overlook. A juvenile fish-eater would probably starve to death before it reached a size likely to present a threat.

Cheers,

Don
