Polar Bear Chiller CC50

doing a coldwater biotope?

doing a coldwater biotope?

just curious. A tropical coral reef aquarium in upstate NY should be able to be designed so no chiller is required. I got rid of mine. I don't think anybody else on this forum runs one (?)

I really don't think I will need one either but came across one for sale for pretty good price. It's always nice to have and not need than need and not have. Thanks for the input though. Do you run a basement sump?

yes- basement sump. A chiller is no good unless you can locate it remote. A chiller in the aquarium stand or room where the aquarium is located is no good. I made that mistake. It's called a heat loop :)

I had to remove the chiller from the aquarium stand and move it downstairs. This is the original reason I moved my entire sump to the basement.

Thanks for the info, My sump will be in the basement too.

basement sump is a good thing and it can negate the need for a chiller depending upon what temp you plan to run your aquarium at. Tropical reef aquariums are usually good at 80F. We can give you hints to eliminate the need for a chiller. IME a chiller can slow down water flow by causing extra head pressure for a pump to work against... unless the polar bear is a drop in unit. Still... a simple clip fan on the side of the sump can be as effective as a chiller IME.
