Ok,

I finally got the pictures to load and all I can say is that he sure has some big stuff in thar 'quarium.

Man, With that growth, I'd be ****ed off because I would have to prune all the time! This thread has certainly peaked my interest and I'm sure some of the coral farmers out there are starting to get their hands on some GH.

No, you didn't miss them, they were not posted (at least in detail) as they were not posted in Italy too. The complete knowledge of this method remains a "secret" of a little group of people in Rome (and maybe someone in Turin but I'm not so sure about it).
Personally I don't like this behaviour but seems like there's nothing that can be done about it. I saw the same thing happening in Italy too. It is sad (in my personal opinion).
The author of this thread posted on an italian forum telling that he posted the images but doesn't feel like talking about the mothod.
So don't wait for any info that will not arrive.

Yes. In this case you are right. I'd just like to say that this is not everyone's behaviuor. I'm sorry for what happened, please don't suppose all of people from Italy behave in the same manner.
 
Enrico, a fellow European-reefer says the a co. in Italy called ELOS has brought to market an additive containing amino-acids/GH. Do you know about this? Thnx. Bob
 
Hmmmm...are you thinking what I'm thinking, Aged Salt? Perhaps my cynicism is clouding my judgement and making me prejudiced, but what with all the excitement caused by Maurizio's recently displayed results, both here and in Italy, the lack of plain answers to polite, easily translatable questions, etc...and, now in a seemingly unrelated topic, ELOS does this press release?

By the way, Enrico, I seriously doubt anyone here is getting a bad impression about Italian reefkeepers in general - we are a nation of immigrants and greatly enjoy conversing with people from around the world! People form their opinions on individuals, per individual, not by nationality - at least that is so with reasonably mature and intelligent folks, IMO.
 
First is clearly stated that Maurizio dont speak english very well,second I dont know what you dont understend,in two related threads everything is explained.
He use powerful skimmer(I dont think that exact model is very important),strong lights what can be easyly seen from the picture,high kh,calcium,strontium and magnesium(is clearly stated what value he keep in his tank),preparation of food and dosing regime and finaly his 10 years observations and expirience are also writen.
I dont get what is not clear?

I know Elos released two new coral foods named C1 and C3.
My LSF (Elos retailer) says they are now unavailable due to problems with packaging that will be solved in September (Don't know if it is true). He never had them but a few shops in other towns had some of this food. People who tried them says that corals grow a lot more than usual.
Don't know if they contain GH, people say they probably contain aminoacids...
 
They are very expensive, much more than other similiar products.
They are realized with great care for their look. For example their fish food is packed in alluminium containers. I use some of their products, for example their salt (and other people use it also if very expensive), a phytoplacton integrator (Elos SVC) and a few other things.
In certain cases I appreciate their products and I think their price is acceptable, in other cases I just think it is too high.

To be honest I can't tell :lol: The problem is first of all that I have just a nano-reef so my environment is rather particular, and second I don't use SVC only... I feed my corals with SVC, Spirulina powder and Phreis Mickoplanckt... By the way I didn't notice any particular change when I added it to the compound of products I used... But as I said I don't feel like considering my experience too much significant.

LOL,honestly that is exactly the same as my expirience with almost any special corall food on the word market:lol: .Until someone find particular food which can sustain non photosynetic coralls all that food so far have the same benefits as flake food for fishes and tank detritus,IMO.
 
He may not have the greatest aquascaping, but damn does he have incredible growth in there, I doubt anybody can match it!

I was also thinking that maybe he did start out with a great aquascaping theme, but then stuff just started growing too fast and he just let it grow at it's own whim!

Or maybe he just dropped some corals in there indiscriminately and we can't ever know since we can't get him to respond anymore.

DMK,around 1940 or litlle more later,Chen started with dsb in modern reef keping,during reefkeping evolution many reef aquariums owners ditch that metod due to many asociated problems and drawbacks with too much sand on the bottom.

If you are referring to Lee Chin Eng, I believe he used a thin layer of sand, not DSB. His method relied on live rock for filtration.

This thread is really disappointing. I can't find any information at all about how HGH is used. :rolleyes:
 
Yep, nothing in detail or in a log or about dosage levels or even what exactly he's using other than what the other Italian reefers have been able to find out. Like Enrico said, he's not really talking, here or on the Italian forums. Oh, well...the Internet is like Nature; it abhors a vacuum. The data will eventually come out somewhere.
 
I think that someone with access to the GH will eventually begin their own experiments in the US, now that this little tidbit is out. Hopefully, they will debunk or support the theory. The thing is that Maurizio may eventually tell, I mean why even mention the GH at all if he wanted to keep it a complete secret. He could have become a rich man if he had kept it a secret, but he didn't so let's not point fingers and judge so quickly.

Yes I am refering to Lee Chin Eng ,I forget his name because I read about him long time ago,how deep was his sand bed I dont know but he was one of the first who use term "live sand" and use live sand for filtrations,with live rocks.
It is interesting to note that Jaubert (1989) refers to the substrate in the tank as "living sand". This is reminiscent of a term used by Riseley (1971) in a book describing the methodology of Lee Chin Eng,

In one of the Tropical Fish Hobist issue,year or two ago,you can find brief history about reef keping,there was picture of aquarium from 1948 with DSB IIRC,without undegravel filter.

Thank you for the link bluereefs, that's interesting reading. According to what I've read, Eng used a very thin layer of sand, there wasn't any depth measurement in the article. You are correct, he was maybe the first to use 'live' sand but not a DSB.

Maybe, but my Italian is not that good and neither is any online translator that I've found. However, this thread is here and it would be nice if that information were too.
