Polishing Glass Edges

I have come into a trove a treasure and was given several sizable 1/4" glass. I've been getting the hang of cutting the glass, but after going through a box of band-aids, I realized that I need to sand and polish the edges. I've tried the sanding block and sandpaper method but I would like a smoother finish with the the sandpaper being a grit of 220-400.

Have anyone tried using the angle grinder with flap disc or a sandbelt. I would like to avoid using the wetting method. Does anyone have any recommendation or tips on polishing the edges?

Use finer grade sandpaper, flap discs will probably be coarser than what you're already using and any high speed method runs the risk of overheating the glass without the addition of water. If you want it truly polished it would be easier to take it to a glaziers and have them run it through an edge polisher. Or stick with the wet sanding method to get a fine but not polished finish.

think it is obvious but I will point it out, you will want to go parallel to the glass, not perpendicular with the belt sander.

Actually that is not entirely accurate. The belt sanders used for glass edge polishing are vertical belt sanders, and the glass is supported on a horizontal table.... grozing pliers, carborundum stones, and diamond pads (on an orbital tool) are the tools to use for the home DIYer. The other two absolutely required tools are safty goggles and a good PAIR OF GLOVES!

If 'you' run a belt sander parallel to the edge, you will dig holes in it...Also, water is always required....
