Polyfilter Use

Anyone know if their is a polyfilter thread I know its an excellent product that has been used for yrs in the industry, curious if anyone uses them a regular basis and how effective people find them for organic and Po4 removal like their website states, I interested in long term results.

Bump No one uses polyfilter?? I am sure someone has experience w this product I wpuld appreciate experiences with it. Thanks!

I use one, but am not sure if it actually does much. I have no trace of Po4, but I'm not sure that it's from the polyfilter. I also use the Tri-pelletized carbon, but am not sure that it does what it's supposed to in conjunction with the polyfilter either. I still have traces of nitrates. I trimmed it to the exact size of my overflow and let the water run through it.

I've used it on a QT tank before when I was still cycling it without aged SW and I think it worked well. It is too expensive for me to use daily as a filter though.

In my 60gallon SPS reef. I use polyfilter in my canister filter. I also change out the pad, and GAC once a week..

Can get 18x30 pad for $6 locally. :)

I use a lot of it. I actually have 25 micron, 50 micron, 100 micron filter pads as well, two different types of sponges, and HC carbon running as my "skimmer". Since the one built for the 14g is garbage. And I don't have room for a sump, and a HOB would have to be really, really thin.

Is that for Poly-filter, or just a filter pad? I don't think they offer Poly-filter in different micron sizes

It also appears that they only offer it in 4"x8" and 8" x 12"

It's polyfilter. But then there's like what they call "water polishing" pads. It's a totally different material.

Polyfilter feels live felt(ish) this stuff is like extremely thin layers of polyester. Some thinner than others (25micron-100micron)

The polyfilter I have isn't the TM brand - it's an "off brand" but still the same stuff.

Are you sure you are buying Polybiomarine polyfilter that seems awfully cheap as most larger pads are around 30 dollars and I think you are confusing that with another product currently sold in aquarium stores. the true polyfilter comes in pads and discs as well as a larger sheet but should say Polybiomarine Polyfilter Tm on it. They are currently made in Reading, Pa.

Polyfilters are very good for mechanical filtration. I don't know if they work for PO4 removal and all that. I change my filter pad every week and I use a Polyfilter once a month or if the tank has more debry from my Goby being over active.

The "polyfilter" I have, and the polyfilter TM feel and look exactly the same. It's just an off-brand.

My Polyfilter feels like hard plastic coated filter pad, nothing like felt

Just as I thought wrong product you Buy we are speaking of the true polyfilter see previoius post the product you buy is not adsorbing or absorbing the organics just filtering the water of fine particles hugh difference in performance and therefore price!

Well, I am not sure how to describe it, but it felt kind of rough. There was the polyfilter TM and the "polyfilter" I have, and they both felt the same and looked the same.

Clearly says on the package it traps ammonia/N03/P04.

I just thought it was a "name brand" thing. Like buying Nike and Reebok. Both are shoes, neither will make you jump higher.

Then what's the difference between what I have, and what the real thing is?

Cannot be the same sorry to disappoint polyfilter is a trademark product by one and only one company. That would be trademark infringement and would set off a legal firestorm.

Hmm.. I JUST threw away the garbage yesterday. It's no longer in my possession. When I go back to the LFS I'll get the company/website. And I'll also get the true polyfilter TM $7 4x4 piece.

I thought polyfilter was polyfilter.

Polyfilters adsorb and absorb all organi cs, amino acids ,heavy metals, Po4 and medicines after treatment, they change color as to what they absorb brown to grey to black with organics, red with iron, green ammonia, blue copper etc They were developed inconjunction with medical pathologists, marine chemists and are cognizant of Van der waal forces weak ionic bonds, they been around for 20 or more years so the longtime aquarists are very familiar with their capabilities.

I hope the above info helps! as I have used them in a great many aquatic situations and recommend them to people who also want to see what they may be adsorbing from their water .
