Any body ever use seachems polygluconate??? supposed to be great for growing coraline algae. Like to try it out if anyone has had any luck with it.wondering how it acts.does it behave its self no precipitation that sort of thing.

They have a liquid Calcium product that is bound with polygluconate. (Basically a sugar). I assume that's what you're talking about.

Yes, it does behave itself as long as you are keeping balanced parameters.

I've heard anecdotally that this product is helpful in regards to coralline growth. However, I've not experienced this myself because I've not tested it nor can I figure out why this would be true. Possibly, there's something I'm missing or possibly this is yet another one of those "old reefers tales".

Sorry I couldn't help more.

I would not use the calcium polygluconate. It is not clear what happens to the polygluconate long term, or how much alkalinity that product provides in addition to calcium.

Wouldn't you think that bacteria would just use it as a Carbon source and bind it up? I'm not suggesting that one should use it, this is just my guess.

Polygluconate is a polymer that I am not certain can be fully metabolized. Like cellulose may not be. If it is, then the product also supplies a lot of alkalinity.

Good point.

I used this product maaaaany moons ago. If I still have the bottle (doubtful), I might do some experimenting.
