Ponds in Tucson

Not really sure where to put this thread but anyways, do any of you have a freshwater pond in Tucson? I've only been in Tucson for 3 years and I don't know if it is a good or bad idea to have a pond here. I've always wanted to have a Koi pond but didn't know how the Tucson sun, temp, dry weather, animals, ect would effect the pond it.

Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

A couple people have ponds here. I believe seafan? has one. he is hardly ever on though. Might be able to catch him at SEA

I just tore mine down after about 15 years. Dig it deep at some point, 40+ inches and shallowest of 24", as sun will cook shallow water, water lillies for shade, it will get 90-100 in sumer but Koi will handle as long as you have good flow/airation. Stock at what they will grow to be, Koi will get 24" easy in a few years, so allow plenty of water per Koi. Mosiqto fish for control

How big was your pond?
I've heard rumors about ponds attracting critters especially in the desert since there is so little water around. Is this not true?

Any chance you are selling your pond stuff?

About 6'x6' and 40"+ on deep end. Had a Blue Herron a few times but pond to deep and after the short take off area, me almost getting him with steel pipe, he found easier pickings. You need to fence it in anyway, its your duty to watch your neighbors kids under the "It takes a Village" Act.
