The blue crabs were eating him for lunch today. This was one of my favorite fish. I checked the water right away and everything was perfect. The only thing I did different in the last 7 days was remove Xenia (last saturday)...I puleed them off the rocks), and bought blood worms, krill, and baby brine shrimp at petsmart about 4 days ago. I used a mixture of those and the multipack that I always get from John. Do you think it was his time, or should I throw out the food I bought from petsmart, This is the first time I have put something in my tank that did not come from Johns shop!! I should have known better.! My little Blenney had a perfect home in the side of one of the rocks he would fly to it, make u-turn, Stick his head out for a second or two, then fly back out again. I'm going to miss him!!!!!

Gabriel,

I don't think it's you food. The culprit is more like your blue crab.

I have two huge emerald crabs. They recently started catching/eating my small blue eye cardinalfish and yellow stripe cardinalfish. One of my blue eye cardinal lost a three quarter of its tail to one of the crabs. :( They are supposed to be reef safe, but when these crabs get big, they tend to develop an appetite for fish or whatever they can catch...

I need to catch them, but they are so fast. I guess I will set a trap.

Is your crab a true blue crab or do you mean blue legged hermit crab? If it's a small blue legged hermit crab, then the problem is not your crab, either.

Did your blenny eat any prepared food? Years ago, I lost my blenny to starvation after I switched my water source to DI water from tap water. Until the switch, he had a lot of film algae and diatom to feed on. After the switch, my tank became very clean and my blenny had nothing to eat since he never touched any prepared food.

Even if your blenny was eating prepared food, I still don't think it's the food you bought from Petsmart ( I never had any problem with frozen food I bought from Petsmart.) If it is the food, I'd imagine that your other fish would be dead or sick as well.

I love my Blenny, Muddy Mudskipper. I have lost ones in the past but they were for obvious causes.
I have never seen a Blenny eat anything other than Alge. Mainly off the glass.
I had one last year that made a home in an old clam shell. At the time I had two. Each stayed on their side of the tank. Every now and then they would meet in the middle and posture! They would have spats but nothing violent.

They are my favorites with my Flame Hawk a distance second.

Good luck.
