Poor Mandarin!

My little guy, who we've had for years, who has survived 2 big moves, and been in 3 different reefs (with us alone) had a big accident this morning.

I noticed that the tank sounded different, and the return was kicking up more particulate into the tank, so I asked husband to investigate. He reached in the sump and felt a slimy thing... the mandarin had apparently surfed down the overflow into the sump, and was sucked partly into the return pump! Andy managed to get him loose after we killed the power. He did give a few weak flips, but god only knows how long he was stuck in there!!! Andy set him on the rocks, and he slithered down into them after a little while.

I can't believe it was too long, as he was still clinging to life when replaced in the tank, but I don't know if my little guy is going to pull through. :( He looked pretty rough, and I am worried that he isn't going to recover. Not a whole heck of a lot I can do about it now, though.

I've had this fish for about 5 years.

Poor little guy. You and your fish didn't watch the movie Finding Nemo recently did you? Hope he recovers!

Mine is starving in my nano now(had to seperate him due to teritorial issues :( )...trying to see if my neighbor wants him, but if he doesn't i wouldn't mind sending him to a good home...he is getting super skinny!

Sorry to hear that. I had the same thing happen to my clownfish. He did make it and I was really surprised. I hope your fish makes it.

I added eggcrate to prevent it happening again:

Well, I'm sorry to report that little buddy didn't pull through. I found his little body in the back corner this morning. :(

Sorry for your loss. My Psychedelic Mandrin is my favorite fish. She makes me most nervous when we relocate from IL to FL next year.
