My little guy, who we've had for years, who has survived 2 big moves, and been in 3 different reefs (with us alone) had a big accident this morning.
I noticed that the tank sounded different, and the return was kicking up more particulate into the tank, so I asked husband to investigate. He reached in the sump and felt a slimy thing... the mandarin had apparently surfed down the overflow into the sump, and was sucked partly into the return pump! Andy managed to get him loose after we killed the power. He did give a few weak flips, but god only knows how long he was stuck in there!!! Andy set him on the rocks, and he slithered down into them after a little while.
I can't believe it was too long, as he was still clinging to life when replaced in the tank, but I don't know if my little guy is going to pull through.
He looked pretty rough, and I am worried that he isn't going to recover. Not a whole heck of a lot I can do about it now, though.
I've had this fish for about 5 years.
