Portrait Taken with Tamron 90 Macro

Looks over photoshopped to me.

I've used my brother's 100mm macro and made some nice portraits, although on my crop body it's a 160mm lens so you have to stand pretty far back :)

Yes, macro lenses can be used for portraits, if. as Recty points out, you can stand / position the camera far enough back!

For me there is a freedom shooting portraits over tank macros too, as one can position the camera at any angle to the subject, not just absolutely straight through the glass, which can limit the view / composition options.

Overall, nice job. Sharp, clear, decent exposure. The hair motion isn't working for me. Something about the lighting and / or skin tones contribute to an over processed look, imho.

Tough crowd!

I'll agree personally I'm not a fan of the softened skin, dodging, burning etc done in photoshop, but that seems to be the "in thing" for most teen to ladies portraits right now.

If you know what to look for you'll spot any photo that has had photoshop processing done to it. People that arent familiar with photoshop and what it does dont notice the changes.

Or in other words customers like it, critics dont. Lol.

Also I should add this picture was taken as a goof, not a photo session. I had some friends over last Friday for drinks and a few of the girls were brave enough to get in front of the camera so I was trying different stuff such as my macro lens etc.

Good photo & retouching. If your clients like it, then that's all that matters IMO.

Looking good,
Love the facial expression and pose.
Lens did perform well as sharpness is not bad. Not bothered by skin smoothing as it's not excessive and is rather a standard nowadays.
I know you're posting about the lens only but other than that I would comment on the followings if I may:
Would love to see more catchlights in the eyes to make them stand out a bit more.
When you have hair motion (by use of a fan or air) the hair is a dynamic part of the image and I prefer not to have it cut in this case.
Would close in a bit more on the subject.
Still a nice photo overall
