My primary heater quit working after years of use. Fortunately, I have a back-up heater in the sump controlled by the ReefKeeper Lite. The secondary heater has never had to turn on until now, but it kicked on as planned and my tank remained a toasty 78.5 degrees overnight. I hate to think what would have happened if there hadn't been a back-up plan. Our house is 68 degrees in the winter and the tank surely would have been much too cold with nothing but the 'fuge light to keep it warm overnight. I urge you all to keep a second heater. Even without a controller, you can set the second one a degree or two cooler and save your livestock.
