Possible Ich on Hippo

My Hippo Tang has a fairly large (2mm...ish) white spot on his left side, right where the black meets the blue. Hes eating great and acting normal, though very camera shy. I will try to get a pic ASAP. Im worried it's Ich, or something worse. I do not have a set up QT tank. But I have a 29g tank with corals and inverts as well as an established fuge. I could theoretically take them all out, cut off the fuge, use one of my HOBs, and dose with copper. Unfortunately, hes at that stage that taking him out is nearly impossible. So far... no other fishing are showing any symptoms.

Im checking out a 150g tank I saw on craigslist tomorrow. Maybe if that works out, I can break the down hes in a use that as a makeshift QT tank.

Please provide any imput!

Thanks,

Marc

If it is ich, better take out all your fish and treat them before it's too late. And leave the tank fishless for 8 weeks. Yeah get a bigger tank for the hippo as well. I had a hippo that had ich. He was still eating and swimming fine so I disregarded it thinking it'll be strong enough to overcome it. Not much longer did the rest of my fish end up getting ich. I had a massive expensive wipe out after. I couldn't tell you how bad and bummed out I felt. Good luck!

Ya... I'm dreading the ich. ATM the tang is doing fine in the tank he's in. He's still young, but he'll do great in the 150 (hopefully if we get it...). I'll get pics ASAP. What works better and is less stressful on the fish: hyposalinity or copper? I've heard chatter that cleaner shrimps will eat ich, but that is only a rumor from what I can tell...

I read that all blue tangs are more prone to get ich then other tangs how true this is I am not sure but cleaner shrimp will eat if the tang allows it too. I added a cleaner wrasse little blue and black one and it does a great job my fish only show signs when stressed out. but the cleaner is constanly after all my tangs. they have been spot free. since I added him to my 100gl..

now for my 55 I do not have any tangs and just had a ICH out break all my fish are now in a 10 gl going thru treatment. I am using Kordons RID ICH + I will keep you posted on the out come my 55 is a QT for my corals and fish but with the coral in the tank I had to remove the fish to treat. still I have a 10 gal set up just for the fish 2 clowns and a Kliens butterfly are in there now. ****ed off. but it beats whipping the tank out.....

a qt is the best way to help him out and catching him is always a problem with all the live rock and all in a display. see if a LFS has a 20 long should be able to handle most fish for the size. and a small cheap power head and a hob with no media in it. just yet no sand or substrate of anykind just a few pieces of pipe and 90% elbows for the fish to hide out.
