Possible new 75 gallon build

Hey guys got a free 75 gallon tank with stand for free. Thinking of doing a build with it. Only thing is its not drilled so I might have to do a external overflow.but not really experienced with. Anyone have good luck with that kind of set up? Aren't they noisy?

Cool. I have bits for 3/4 and 1" bulkheads. Let me know if/when you want to pick them up.

Frost did you build a c2c for yours

I have 3 tanks (still building the 3rd setup) two of which employ the coast to coast style overflow. It really depends on your preference in the end, but I don't think anyone would refute that you get better top of the water turnover with them. They also don't need to go all the way across, but longer is better in my mind. The ghost overflows would be my second choice because they take up so little space in the tank, but I haven't used one. Aquanut has one if you want to ask him. swk what style is yours?

Just the standard in tank corner overflow. Nothing fancy just an off the shelf tank. It came with 2 holes. A 1" and 3/4". I chose to run the return over the back and run a herbie drain. The 3/4 is the siphon drain and the 1" is the emergency. Works great! Of course I'd rather have the real estate in the tank, but for the price I'm quite happy.

Just my two cents. Just remember when drilling there is a chance of shattering the tank LOL. I only say that cause I shattered a tank. It was only a 40 gallon with thinner glass but it happens. I think out of all the drilling in any glass tank I'm 3 for 5. Largest tank was I want to say was a 75. I even asked local glass companies to do it and even they won't guarantee no shatter. Good Luck

Lol I'll keep that in mind dragon but at least if I shatter the tank it was free lol. I do know that the bottom is tempered glass there's a sticker on it so I'll be sure to stay away from it lol. I have watched several Vids on the c2c I like it and everyone says nothing but good things about the surface skimming of them. Just nervous about it I've never done a diy like this before lol.

Just take it slow, let the bit do the cutting, and the weight of the drill is the pressure, don't push down at all. I'm 4 for 4 with drilling glass. I also use a hose on low flow to cool the bit instead of a standing puddle of water (which can warm up over the course of the drilling). Probably the most important part aside from that is knowing if the piece you are drilling is tempered or not.

Aquanut has one if you want to ask him.

Slight correction...

I have an external OF. Tank is custom acrylic with a slot to let water flow to the OF.

The ghost OF looks cool. I'd go for that on a glass tank. I don't care what's on the outside back of the tank but I really like the interior to have as little as possible showing.
