Possible New Tank

I have the opportunity to purchase a 300 gallon tank, stand, canopy, and accessories. It is reef ready but was used as a FO tank. What I am wondering is what would a good price be? I know free would be the best but what would a realistic price be?

Thanks

Just to compare I bought a 180 acrylic, tank, stand, canopy, lights, filter, mag18 pump for $600 and I thought that was a great deal.

It really depends on quatilty of the tank stand and canopy
I paid $1300 for my 180 Tank stand and canopy and feel it was a GREAT deal

What's included in "accessories?"
the asscessories could have more value than the tank

This is JMO:

Here's a way to determine if its a good deal:
1. Make an itemized list of everything your buying
2. Look up the retail value of each item
3. Adjust the value of the item to reflect a non-retail price (this is appropriate because you cannot return items for "store credit" and there is no "customer satisfaction policy")
4. Again adjust each item's value base on condition/use
5. Take an additional 10% off because you are buying "a complete package" (this is appropriate because you don't get the opporunity to select the type/brand of each component and even most retail outlets will offer a discount for purchasing complete setup).

Add it up and there you go.

Consistently, people will sell used complete setups for much lower than the price that this process will determine. If they want actual value for each item, they usually need to part out.

Lastly, always check with Dough Lehman for complete setups for buying.

Good luck!

The asking price currently is $1200 and the tank is in great shape. Stand needs some refinishing on it.

What accessories come with?

I paid $1200 for my 125g but it included EVERYTING needed for a FO system and the cabniet was sweet, I thought that was a good deal?

There are (2) 4' T5 light set-ups, a protien skimmer, (2) pumps, 40g wet/dry sump, (4) 300w hearters, and lots more.

Thanks

Jim,

I would also look into who made the tank. This is very important to know you are buying a quality tank and not a fly by night builder.

Acrylic thickness throught is also important.

Is this tank acrylic? If so (and as long as it was built reputable builder) that price would be INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Even if it isnt, all that equipment makes it sound like a great deal.

I believe the tank is glass. I will be going to see the set-up Sunday in Shorewood. I will find out which manufacture it is from.

One other thing which I am not sure will make difference or not. THe tank is 8' long 2" deep and 31" tall.

Jim will the 250 HQI's that I just bought be enough for this depth?

Thanks
Jim Mc

If you just need the tank, I can tell you that member J-Lo on piranha-fury.com will sell the tank stand and tops for maybe $700.

same dimensions built by glasscages.com

I have bought it but have not gone to pick it up yet. I am still trying to figure out where I will be placing it. For the near future it will stay empty in the garage.

Thanks

You have seen the room I plan on putting it in.

My thoughts were to build a wall at the right hand side of the room and put the tank in the wall. One issue is that the current 125 is actually in the way. So I have to find away around it.

you could borrow one of those rubber maid 100 gal tubs drain it and move it over to make room just so happens I have one and will be willing to give you a hand if you need
