Possible ro/di system?

DOES ANYBODY KNOW IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO BUILD YOUR OWN REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM? IF I BOUGHT THE MEMBRANES AND FILTERS SEPARATE COULD I SOME HOW BUILD SOMETHING TO RUN THE WATER THROUGH THEM? I DOUBT IM THE FIRST ONE TO THINK OF THIS, IS IT JUST NOT FEASIBLE? IF NOT, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A CHEAPER(<$100) SYSTEM I CAN BUY THAT IS GOOD? I'm fairly new to the hobby so I have never bought one before and I've only found them for $200 or more. Thanks for any help

you could potentially do it, but by the time you got the filters and canisters you need it will be close to the cost of a standard system.

I agree. In fact by the time you found all of the pieces and had them shipped to you you'd probably spend more.

Try ebay. Some are better than others but sometimes you can get a good deal on one.

Of course you can put your own together, it's actually fairly simple. However, as has been stated in previous posts, the individual components will likely cost as much, or maybe more than purchasing a complete system in the first place.

I think a good sub-$100 unit is going to be fairly hard to come by unless you consider used, then unless you know specifically what your getting and how much use it's had you could potentially end up replacing the membrane and other filter/parts and spend more that new in short order. The refurbed Spectrapure doesn't look bad, but doesn't provide a holding tank, or faucet if you intend to use it for drinking water to. Another thing to consider is avoiding units with horizontal GAC or DO filters since they can allow water to bypass without being treated.

IMO even though I got lucky with an Ebay unit 10 or 12 years ago, your RO/DI system isn't an item to cheap out on. Be smart, but low bid may not be the best idea when it comes to water treatment.

I have this one, with the container. After I put the system with container and MECHANICAL top-off in the sump, no problem anymore with buckets and low water levels.

The container is very important for the automatic system, because prevents the water to go through the filter continuously. The filter only works under the request of the mechanical valve.

+1 to building your own. You e got limited options for prebuilts imo.
I built mine for about 60-75% the cost of other setups and the one I built included a full silica resin canister plus 2 di stages.

You don't want an unlimited supply of RO/DI water going directly to your sump. Something, somewhere, sooner or later will fail and it will flood your tank with freshwater killing everything and your floor. Send the RO/DI water by turning on a valve to a holding tank which is then setup with a ATO to top off the sump.
