possible silly Calcium Reactor question

Since calcium leaches into the water does that mean sooner or later the media inside the reactor starts to get smaller and disintegrate or you just toss it out?

I have one but need to fix the leak first.

Yes the media gets smaller as it is eaten away by the increase in acidity in the reactor. I have a small reactor (KNOP-C) and replace the media every three months. The reactor not only replaces lost calcium, but other essential elements (bicarbonate's, magnesium, ect.) locked up in the media as well. Something like that.

Yeah..what gws said. How often will be determined by how hard you have to dial it up.

Correct, it does depend on the demand of the corals in the system. Example:If you have several corals or corals & clams, the demand for calcium will be higher. If you only have a couple of corals in a large system, the demand will be low. So you will still have to test your parameters. You probably are still testing, but a lot of people think that just because they are running a calcium reactor they will not have to test as ofter, if at all. That is from my experience. I've talked to a few people that end up not testing. I still test on a regular basis.
