what do you guys think of a bluejaw trigger in the same tank as a lionfish? Ive read that blue jaws are peaceful triggers but not sure how it will act towards a lionfish.

I have 180g tank w/
1 big damsel
2 tomato clowns
1 watchman goby
1 lionfish
1 naso tang
1 blue tang

about 150-200 pds of rock which im thinking of taking some out

They are very peaceful in my experience and Im sure it would be just fine. Just keep an eye on the new addition.

thanks, but would you suggest a different fish?

these are great fish. do you want something different? as far as triggers go, and compatibility with lionfish, it's probably the best choice for your tank.

if you want something else, there are lots of good choices:

Australian harlequin tuskfish
large angel
a dwarf angel or two
hogfish
heniochus (can be paired)

puffers can be iffy with lionfish..just depending on the attitude of the puffer because some puffers will fin nip.

also a word of caution i lost to porcipine puffers to lionfish stings(both times were accidents where the puffer came down on the spines ie floated down/sank onto the spines)

I agree, puffer can be a risk with the lion, though there are people who successfully keep them together. if are determined to get one, I'd get a dogface because they are pretty mellow. IMO less likely to nip at fins and less likely to blunder into venomous spines. do be careful around feeding time. I think that's the most likely time for a problem to occur. feed them on opposite sides of the tank.

I keep a volitan with 4 puffers, and they all get along really well. One of my puffers has even been stung on more than one occasion, and has recovered just fine each time (just a little swelling occurred). As long as you are cautious I'm sure a puffer will get along well with your lionfish, just keep an eye out for any typical signs of aggression or nipped fins.

Good luck!
