Possum or Tanaka Wrasse temperament in Nano?

I've read a lot of people saying the Pink Streaked is a model community fish, especially for a smaller tank -- I've read significantly less about Possum Wrasse, specifically the Tanaka.

So how do Possum/Tanaka wrasse get along with small peaceful fish?

Possibly, I asked awhile ago about fish that will survive with my girlfriends Firefish. I just don't want to find out a Possum wrasse is much less friendly than the Pink Streaked or something like that.

I know both of my possom wrasse don't even pay attention to each other. The Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse likes frozen foods and pod hunting but no dry foods. The pink streak will eat frozen food or dry food. Both cool fish. I also have two yellow corris wrasse, and two flasher wrasses. What else do you want to know?

I have a Tanaka in my 30gal along with a pair of clowns, yellow assessor, trio of cardinal fish, and a purple firefish. Absolutely no aggression from him at all, these are very timid fish IMO.

Possum Wrasses are very shy; not at all any kind of bully. They spend most of their day hunting pods. They do awesome when in tanks with smaller and peaceful fish.

Possums are cryptic but get along with other wrasses, angel, and gobies in my nano. They chomp on inverts though.

Good to hear! I've heard mixed reviews on Tanaka wrasse, that they're 50/50 bully/saint -- Kinda how it goes in general with fish.

Either way, I've got a Firefish and a Geometric Hawk sharing my 29g Biocube. No aggressive behavior at all. Honestly, they're a good pair so far.. They're both too afraid of eachother to start any crap. I'm seeing the Hawkfish creep up on the Firefish and want to Pal Around which makes the Firefish bolt, which in turn makes the Geo Hawk bolt.

Finding fish that don't scare the crap out of / beat up a lil firefish is a slight challenge, especially for a nano.

Sounds like a Possum Wrasses would be a great fit. Another option would be a Yellow Assessor.

Thanks Snorvich good read. I've only seen the 3 ones listed at Live aquaria.

An LFS nearby had 2 yellow band in today, the price was right but they were really beat up.. Mouth rot on one, both had lots of scales missing and ich. Sadly I don't have room for a QT tank, so i'm at the mercy of visual inspection.

Next time I may have to pay a local reefer in frags to QT a fish for me. Terrible inconvenience to ask of somebody though.

I have a possum wrasse, a pink streaked wrasse, a firefish and a yellow assessor in a biocube 29 with no issues. The firefish is the most aggressive at this point. That tells you how mellow all these other fish are

To illustrate how peaceful these fish are, I had to leave my biocube fallow because somehow ick was introduced when I added corals. Long story short, I had to re-home all 4 fish into another tank during this period and they are living peacefully in a 5 gallon tank for a few weeks.

The plan was to move them into the 10 gallon but it had been busy and I have completely forgotten until NOW! With that said, they've been in the biocube for 6 months before they got relocated.

Thanks Piusma -- To make a semi-long and boring story short -- My GF picked the Firefish, she loves it, and I'm trying to build a tank around the Firefish feeling secure and openly swimming the tank.

So that's exactly what I was also hoping to hear.

Thats too funny! I've long said that it is a toss up between my Yellow Assessor and my Firefish for tank boss just to demonstrate how mellow my tank actually is.

Kinda surprising hearing that about a Yellow Assessor, I thought they could be a bit much? Or are they docile because they just don't care about other inhabitants.

Don't think I would go quite that far. When I had my 65 gal I had at one time three yellows and a single blue assessor along with a pair of clowns, a firefish and a tailspot blenny, everyone got along just fine and the assessors were always out in plain sight.
I had a flasher wrasse that was being bullied in my 210 at the time so I put him in the 65 with the assessors for some recovery time. Well all I can say is the assessors freaked out and hid the second that wrasse hit the tank and pretty much stayed that way till the wrasse was removed.
Assessors are among my favorite of all fish but docile tankmates are a must if you want to get the full benefit of keeping them.

Awesome to know. I've always thought they were in the medium temper side, not timid.
