Post Crash Coral Problem

So a few weeks ago I had a major tank crash. Lost almost everything. Pretty much narrowed it down to an ro/di top off issue. Still not sure. Well after having a horrible week trying to save anything possible. Things started to pick up and the few corals started to re-open and show signs of life. Ill detail things below but now I am having a whole new problem. One coral is shedding some wierd layer over and over. The tissue under the shedding looks fine. That and a toadstool is shriveled. The whole tank is starting to get a wierd neon green algae growth. It is not slimy and covering everything. Please see the attached pics. If I am in the wrong forum please let me know where to redirect. Right now the tank looks like is going down again and I may face lossing all the remaining items.

Thanks for any help.

I could be totally wrong and this is my theory: it looks like a slime/toxin war between softies. Their response to the stress is to slime up and release toxins for protection. This triggers another to do the same and you've got a nice circle of chemical war going on.

Run carbon to help remove toxins, skim wet and do water changes often to help reduce the chemicals and let them settle down.

Side note: Is your tank only softies? Your calcium seems low. do you test magnesium? When I finally started testing, I was way low on mag bringing it up to 1300 made a big difference in my tank.

Yep just soft corals and yes my magnesium was kinda low. Ive been bringing it up slowly. I cant figure out what the neon green algae that growing everywhere is. Ive never seen algae like this before. Since so much of the tank died I feed just a minimal amount to the fish to keep the waste low. I ran heavy on the carbon 2 weeks ago and will replace tonight. The initial crash came on over a few days and wiped tank out pretty quickly.

Thanks for the advice.

If its a sacrophyton, they do that when they're upset.

They're fairly hardy and should weather the storm. I had one that was angry for over a year when I first started.

The most sucessful reefkeepers I've seen keep everything stable.
Everytime their enviroment changes, the coral get stressed and dont like it...much like union workers:)

Wife upset, kids upset, employees, corals upset Theres no winning!!

Thanks for the help. Its insane, got 4 kids, house, dog, job, and all Im doing is stressing over this one coral!! Its this one coral I got as a tiny little frag years ago which has grown nicely. Not all that pretty but for some reason I have strong feeling for it. Lost all my stars, xenia, frogspawn etc...hope he pulls through.

Good to hear he is alright (hopefully)
